Come and join us on 2 July (2:00 pm GMT) for the second event in our arts programe celebrating 75 years of encounters in Caux. The focus of this event will be on "Words and Music" and will be in two parts. There will be time for some informal conversation at the end of the event for those who would like to stay to share thoughts and ideas.

Part I

Songs of Trance and Transformation: inheritance tracks from Caux.

British musician William Leigh Knight will present a personal selection of songs associated with Caux, supported by Cath Hutchison and accompanied by John Collis.

Part II

The Power of Poetry: Changing the World by Writing about Truth and Beauty

We will have an interview with writer and novelist Yara Zgheib, originally from Lebanon. Mixed in with the interview will be readings from some of her writing and maybe a favourite poem or two.

Meet the Artists

William Leigh Knight

William Leigh Knight is a singer and voice teacher. His performances have ranged from song recitals and chamber opera to mediaeval church music drama but has devoted much of the last fifteen years to working with so-called non-singersand researching how to help adults reclaim the joys of singing. He first sang at Caux in 1970 but more recently has worked at several events there including being team-leader for the 'Seeds of Inspiration' conferences from 2014-16. William was born in London but is now setting up home on a Hebridean island where he and his partner Cath Hutchinson are building a new house. All his life he has been a professional church chorister but since being on the island, he has become the parish organist.

Yara Zgheib

Yara Zgheib is a writer, traveler, and lover of nature, jazz and art.  Born in Lebanon she has pieces of her heart scattered through Paris, London and Boston. She writes weekly essays on her blog, The non-Utilitarian, musing on things neither practical nor useful, but true and beautiful. Essential. She has written two novels including The Girls at 17 Swann Street. A Fulbright scholar, she consults with governments and the nonprofit sector on peace and security strategies, with an emphasis on conflict resolution. Joined Initiatives of Change in 2011 and an organizer of the Forum on Just Governance for Human Security and chair of the humansecurityX Fellowship Programme. Believing that love and ideas can change the world, she likes books and smart conversations, early morning yoga and evening walks.
